Celebrating International Women's Day at HKUST
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD run by the Suffragettes in 1911. IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific. The theme of IWD this year is #InspireInclusion.
HKUST strongly supports gender parity in higher education and in particular science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We value diversity and reduce stereotypes for greater educational outcomes and a more balancing society. At HKUST, a series of events will be held by different Schools/ Offices/ Units to promote gender equity at learning environment and workplace.
Show your support by joining any of our events, or simply be our ambassador to spread the message in person or in social media. Don’t forget to add the hashtags #InspireInclusion #HKUST #IWDatHKUST in your messages!
Women Faculty Association
Diversity drives ideas and liberates minds. There have been many studies showing the benefit of gender diversity in terms of organizational efficiency. With the strong support of the former President Wei Shyy, the Women Faculty Association at HKUST was established in November 2011 by a group of like-minded women faculty from all Schools at HKUST – School of Engineering, Science, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science and Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies, with the mission “to actively promote a diverse, inclusive, equitable and intellectually vibrant environment” at our university.
